Newgate Club donation

Posted: April 14th, 2026

We were delighted to be nominated by the Newgate Club as their Principal’s Charity for 2025.

The club was founded in 1976 and held its first meeting in a private dining room at the Old Bailey; hence the club’s name as the famous court was built on the site of the notorious Newgate Prison. The private dining club now meets in various locations across London.

Each Principal chooses a charity for his year in office and we are very grateful to Andrew Palacio for choosing the Guild last year.

Recently Andrew, accompanied by his wife Caroline, visited Barts (pictured) to present our Hon. Treasurer, Jean Stevenson, with an extremely generous donation of £5,000, which will help support the Guild’s work with Barts staff, patients and visitors.

We offer sincere thanks and gratitude to Andrew and all the members of the Newgate Club for their generosity and support of the Guild, and we are happy to announce we have awarded the club an honorary life membership in recognition of their contribution.
